History of Petrol & Diesel Prices in New Delhi, India

Government has finally done it – Diesel prices have been hiked by Rs. 5 from midnight of September 13, 2012. This would obviously a bad news for people like you and me and would further fuel the already uncontrollable inflation.

I tried to find out from various sources how the prices of Petrol and diesel have changed over last ten years in New Delhi.

Below is the chart representing the same.

History of Petrol & Diesel Price in Delhi
History of Petrol & Diesel Price in Delhi

In September 2002, the price of Petrol was Rs. 26.66 a liter while Diesel was Rs. 18.68 a liter in Delhi.

As of today, the Petrol sells at Rs. 68.46 and Diesel after the price hike would cost Rs. 46.32 per liter.

So the petrol prices have gone up by 157% in ten years while diesel has gone up by 148% in last ten years.

Also, in 2002, Diesel was 30% cheaper than petrol per liter and now it is still 32% cheaper.

So all in all prices of both the fuels have moved in tandem.
