How to get your Aadhaar number?

A few days back  EPFO has made Aadhaar number compulsory for opening and operating EPF account. With Government forcing for Aadhaar Number through its different departments, I am planning to get one soon. So, I researched about getting an Aadhaar myself and all the information here is what I could gather from internet.

To start with the Aadhaar number is free and seems simple on paper.

Steps to your Aadhaar number:

  1. Visit any Aadhaar enrolment centre with a proof of identity and a proof of address
    • You can find your nearest enrolment centre from Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website – Click to  Search.
    • In case you are not keen on visiting these centers you can wait for camps which are held at times near your locality.
    • In Delhi I have seen Aadhaar camps were held in some building societies.
  2. At the enrolment center you need to fill up a short form [shortest Government form I have seen] which requires your details like PAN number, Date of birth, etc. Download Aadhaar Enrolment Form here.
  3. Once the form is filled, your eye biometric test, finger prints and photo will be taken.
  4. You will get an acknowledgment slip with a temporary enrolment number and other details captured during enrolment immediately.
  5. However, it takes time to get the actual card. The waiting period is normally 60-90 days; sometimes it may take even longer.
