ID Proof Mandatory while Traveling in Reserved Classes on Railways

From December 1, 2012 Indian Railways has made it mandatory to carry original Identity Proof for travelling in all reserved classes of railways. 

List of ID Proof Documents:

  • Voter Photo Identity Card issued by Election Commission of India
  • Passport
  • PAN Card
  • Driving License
  • Nationalized Bank Passbook with Photographs
  • Credit Card with Photographs
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Photo Identity Card issued having serial number issued by Central/ State Govt. like:
    • Pension Pay Order (PPO)
    • Ration Card (with Photograph)
    • Senior Citizen Card
    • BPL Card
    • ESIC I-Card (with Photograph)
    • CGHS Card (with Photograph)
  • Photo Identity Cards having Serial Number issued by PSUs of Central/ State Govt. , District Administrators, Municipal Bodies and Panchayat Administrators

Some Rules:

  1. At least one in the group on a ticket needs to carry any of the above valid ID Proof
  2. The ID Proof for tatkal tickets should be same as mentioned in the tatkal ticket
  3. Those travelling without ID proof would be considered as travelling without ticket and fined accordingly.
