Useful Tips on HRA:

1. All the rents you generate above has to be signed by your landlord

2. In case the annual rent paid is more than Rs 1 Lakh, you need to compulsorily give PAN number of your landlord. Most employers are not accepting declaration of not having PAN anymore.

3. In case your landlord does not share his PAN number, you cannot do much. You can still claim HRA tax exemption while filing your ITR. However make sure you have enough evidence of payment of rent.

4. Do not submit fake rent receipts or wrong PAN number, this may come to bite you back in future. The ways data is being integrated, it might not be far away when tenant/landlord transactions can be tracked by income tax department.
