A few days back Times of India had published the below info-graphic showing how asset class among Equities, Real Estate, Gold and fixed deposits have performed in last one, three, five and ten years.
For last one year Gold was the best performer with whooping 39.3% returns while in last three years it was equities with 28.5% annualized returns in the winning spot. Gold was again the best performing asset if we take last five year return with 24.8% annualized returns while on extending the performance window real estate turns out to be the best investment giving average annual returns of 28%.
This is just good to know information as past performance may not hold in future.
But some lessons you can pick here are:
- Real estate is a very long term investment
- Equities is best for 3 -5 years of investment span
- While fixed deposits though the safest gave the lowest returns.
